It is reflected in the state's ability to enforce its own laws in its own territory, and object to any type of external intervention. Self-determination is similar to Sovereignty, while Self-determination theoretically belongs to the peoples of a nation, Sovereignty is vested in the state's government itself. However,  the old concept of States' Sovereignty is fading, especially in an era where countries are glad to share powers with international organizations, like the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council, or where indebted countries are subject to loan requirements set by international financial institutions, like the International Monetary Fund.
